The Alexander Technique is a method of education.  Most of our physical problems, anxiety and stress related issues have a common root problem, HABITS.  The way that we habitually use ourselves physically, emotionally and psychologically affects directly how we function. For example

  • Back pain or skeletal muscular disorders is often the result of a long term habit, where we put pressure on the spine over a period of time until finally pain appears
  • Stress or panic attacks can be a constant, aggravated response from our nervous system which we find difficult to control (habits!!)
  • Breathing and vocal problems appear when we tense our spine, ribs, throat over a long period of time

In most cases, the problem/pain is a manifestation of many years of poor posture and bad use.  The Alexander Technique helps you to identify those harmful habits so long installed that we do not even realize exist.  Regular sessions with an Alexander Teacher can help you to learn how to eliminate these bad habits yourself

Once we start to change these habits, we become more conscious, relaxed, and more efficient in carrying out our daily activities from sitting a desk, driving, walking, talking, etc…and pain an discomfort will start to dissolve.
